Give-A-Kid-A-Book

Going on now through December 19th the Friends of the L.E. Phillips Public Library are collecting new, unwrapped books for the 19th Annual Give-A-Kid-A-Book project. Suggestions include board books for babies, easy picture books for pre-schoolers, and fiction and non-fiction books for ages 6 to 18. Dictionaries and audiobooks are also needed. Bring books to the library during regular library hours or they can be donated at Charter Bank.  Monetary donations are also welcome, and more books will be purchased with your contribution.

Christmas Celebration

One of Eau Claire's annual traditions, Christmastime in the City will be December 7th Noon to 5PM at the Downtown Hotel parking lot.  Lunch with Santa will be from Noon to 3PM at Pizza Plus. There will be free wagon rides will be from 1PM to 3:30PM. Christmas Tree Lighting will be at 4:30PM.  Great family fun to ring in the season.  See the event poster on Facebook

Stuff the Sleigh

Saturday November 23rd join with Mega Foods and many other area sponsors in the Stuff the Sleigh 5K at Carson Park in Eau Claire.  Registration begins at 8AM with the Run/Walk at 10AM and a 1 Mile Kids Fun Run with Santa at 11AM. Bring items to Stuff the Sleigh - non-perishable food items, animal blankets, food, toys, and litter, new children's toys, baby items and personal hygiene items. Donations will go to the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, Feed My People Food Bank and the Eau Claire County Humane Association.

If you're out hunting or just can't be at the event Saturday, you can still help by bringing donations to Mega Foods West November 15th-17th.

Pancakes and Family Fun

Chippewa Valley Museum will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast and Free Family Fun Day Saturday October 26th 8:30AM to 11:30AM. Enjoy a costume contest, scavenger hunt and more. There will also be a Boo-gle run at 10:30AM with the Indianhead Track Club's 45th Annual Carson Park 5K and 10 Mile Walk Run.

Halloween Fun Begins

October comes with spooks and goblins and things that go bump in the night. Halloween is just around the corner and Halloween Hallow is back for the second year in Eau Claire. The Enchanted Forest opens this Friday October 4th and run though October 27th with "spirited" family entertainment with day and evening hours. For adults Frightmare Farm opens next Friday October 11th and will be open Friday and Saturday nights through October 26th.

31st Annual Buckshot Run

Run or walk for Special Olympics at the 31st Annual Leader Telegram Buckshot Run Saturday August 31st, Carson Park in Eau Claire.

Go 5 miles or 2 miles, and bring the kids for the Kids Run. Or join the Party in the Park with music and food and cheer the racers on!

There is also a Lil Buckshot on Tuesday August 27th for those who can't make it Saturday.

Story Hour at Beaver Creek Reserve

Bring the kids for Budding Naturalist Hour at Beaver Creek Reserve, a story hour for children of all ages. Be at the Wise Nature Center in Fall Creek July 13th 10AM-11AM. Free for members, fee for non-members, includes a craft or hike.  Registration is not required, but appreciated.

Stroll, Walk or Run

Walking and running are great exercise, and its even better when you do it for charity.

Saturday June 22nd enjoy a leisurely stroll through five beautiful gardens, enjoying art and music at the 16th Annual Friends of the Symphony Garden Stroll.  Rain or shine, the stroll will be from 9AM-4PM. Saturday June 29th the 19th Annual RCU Charity Classic begins at 7AM at Phoenix Park in Eau Claire.  There will be a 10K walk/run, a 2-mile walk/run, and 1/2- and 1/4- mile children's races. You can register online at rcu.org

If you're looking for a weekend of fun to go with your run head to the 9th Annual Red Flint Firecracker Race and Run June 29th-30th. Saturday there will be a course pre-ride, a learn-to-race clinic, a spaghetti feed, and a campfire or night ride. Sunday's events include a breakfast, kid's race, and  5K or 10K race events. 2013 Armwrestling National Championships

June 13th-16th Eau Claire plays host to the 2013 Armwrestling National Championships at the America's Best Value Inn.

Friday at 6PM is the Junior right and left competition, Saturday at 1PM is Open right and left hand competitions, and Sunday at Noon will be Masters, Grand Masters, Ultra Masters Right and Left Hand and Disabled Right Hand.

Saturday evening 9PM to Midnight there will be a DJ and dancing as well as arm wrestling. Free admission and all are welcome.

Bird Hikes

The Beaver Creek Bird Club held its first Bird Hike for the month last weekend at the Chippewa River Preserve, but there are still three more weekends to get out there.  The Hike is from 6:30AM to 8:30AM.  If there are thunderstorms in the area, the hike will be cancelled.

Wear comfortable clothes and hiking shoes - and don't forget your binoculars!

Eau Claire Marathon

Are you ready to run?

Saturday May 5th is the 5th Annual Eau Claire Marathon at Carson Park in Eau Claire. Race proceeds will help the YMCA building project. You can go the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay or join the Fun Run to help this worthy cause. If you don't want to run, you can be a part of this event as a volunteer!

Easter Eggs and More

Easter weekend is here - and if you are looking for an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids or a great meal check out what's happening around the Eau Claire area.

Easter Egg Hunts on Saturday March 30th:

8AM-5PM - Easter Egg Hunt and special activities all day at Down To Earth in Eau Claire.

10AM-11PM - Chippewa Valley Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Chippewa Valley Boy Scouts at  Carson Park-Pine Pavilion in Eau Claire.
11AM-1PM - Easter Egg Hunt and activities for kids 10 and under at 10th Street Park in Altoona.

11AM-1PM - Easter Egg Hunt and Pictures with the Easter Bunny at Schultz's Country Barn in Eleva. Egg Hunt is at 11AM.

1PM-3PM - Easter Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny at Green Oasis Garden Center in Chippewa Falls. Donations of a food items or money will be accepted for local food pantry.

Also on Saturday the Hope Gospel Mission in Eau Claire will be serving dinner from 5PM-7PM. Enjoy ham, rice pilaf, sweet potatoes, and more. All are welcome.

Easter Sunday, March 31st breakfast will be served at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire from 7:30AM-10AM.

Also on Easter Sunday, there will be a Brunch Buffet from 9:30AM-2PM at Fanny Hill in Eau Claire. Cost is Adults: $19.99/Adults $9.99/kids 5-10 and 4 and under free. Call for reservations (715) 836-8184 or (800) 292-8026.

Fish Boil

Immaculate Conception School in Eau Claire had been hosting it's 29th Annual Fish Boil this Lenten season, and the last one will be held March 22nd from 4:30PM to 7:30PM.

Dinner includes red potatoes, carrots, coleslaw, onions, mac and cheese, bread, ice cream cup and a beverage, and this final event also includes their famous Clam Chowder! Tickets are $9/Adults and $5/Kids 6-12, 5 and under are free. Carryouts are available.

35th Annual Home and Garden Show

Cabin Fever setting in? Beaver Creek Annual French Toast Breakfast

Start Super Bowl Sunday off right with a hearty breakfast and a snowshoe walk!

Sunday February 3rd is the Beaver Creek Annual French Toast Breakfast along with the Chippewa Valley Watercolor Artist Reception and Open House. Breakfast begins at 8:30, admission is $6/advance $7/at the door for adults, and $3/advance $4/at the door for kids. The Watercolor Artist Reception begins at 9AM and includes fiber spinning demonstrations. The Nature Store will be have a sale as well and cross-country skis and snowshoes will be available for rental at no charge.

Ski Jumping Championships


This Friday and Saturday the Eau Claire Ski Club will be hosting the 127th Annual Silver Mine Invitational - USA Cup & North American Ski Jumping Championships. These are USSA sanctioned events. Admission is $10/advance or $15/gate. Children 12 and under are free.
